Meet our Speech Pathologist
Abby Deason, Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, grew up in Alabama, USA, and now calls Bribie Island home, where she established Sound Abilities Speech Pathology in 2021.
Abby has experience in a range of settings both in the USA and Australia, including private clinics, schools and hospitals. She enjoys working with clients and their families in a fun, creative and supportive environment in order to provide excellent service and motivate clients to reach their full potential.
Abby has a special interest in helping people of all ages who have difficulty with speech sounds, reading and/or spelling. By only focusing on these areas, she is able to enhance her clinical skills and stay up-to-date with current research in order to best support her clients. This includes completing training in the evidence-based, highly effective synthetic phonics program Sounds-Write, as well as training in Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme (NDP3) and Rapid Syllable Transition Training (ReST), which are used for treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Abby has also completed training in Speech Intelligibility Treatment (SIT) for paediatric dysarthria and the SPEAK OUT! program for people with Parkinson's disease.
